Overview

Wynns Coonawarra Estate is situated on part of the original Riddoch vineyards and the historic winery, built by John Riddoch in 1891, and immortalised on the Coonawarra Estate
label.

Scotsman William Wilson was the first to discover the unique soil structure at Coonawarra (an Aboriginal name meaning "honeysuckle"). He purchased one hectare of land at Penola and planted fruit trees and vines, which flourished.

Today Wynns Coonawarra Estate is the district's pre-eminent producer and largest single landholder with 850 hectares, about one-third of the entire terra rossa area, including many of the best and longest-established vineyard sites.

Seven wines - two whites and five reds (including 2 flagship wines) are produced each year:- Wynns Coonawarra Estate Riesling, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Shiraz Merlot,
Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2 flagship red wines - Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz and Wynns Coonawarra Estate John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon.

Today the Wynns Coonawarra Estate range is renowned worldwide for this consistent quality and its reputation continues to grow. Samuel Wynn would be justifiably proud of the wines, which continue his name.
