Overview
The Estate Vineyard is located in the heart of the Willamette Valley Appellation with south and southwest facing slopes dropping from 750' in elevation to 500', allowing for the best summer sun and air circulation. Yields are low, with the Estate Pinot noir purposely limited to 1.75 tons per acre.
In 1997 we purchased one of Oregon's oldest and most respected vineyards, Tualatin Estate, near Forest Grove. We have increased plantings with new roostocks and Dijon clones of Pinot noir (113, 114, 155, 667 and 777.) Both the Estate and Tualatin vineyards are certified Salmon Safe and LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology).
Our goal is to make the highest quality Burgundian varietals possible from the Willamette Valley. As native Oregonians, we treasure our environment and use sustainable practices in growing and vinifying our winegrapes.
The winery and underground cellar are carved into the top of an ancient volcanic flow, the soil red from its oxidized iron content and well-drained. This unique terroir is similar to the red clay soil found in the Grand Cru Pinot noir vineyards of Romaneé-st-Vivant in Burgundy, where the "soil gives France's most perfumed, satiny, expensive wine" (Hugh Johnson, World Atlas of Wine.)
