Seppelt Wines

For more than a century Seppelt has proudly taken its place as one of Australia's leading wine companies. Over the years the name has come to be synonymous with premium quality wine. Although no longer a family business, the majestic Seppeltsfield Winery is an enduring monument to the efforts of five generations of the Seppelt family.

Seppelt Wines was founded by Joseph Ernst Seppelt, a chemist who migrated to Australia with his family from Silesia (now Poland) in 1849. In 1851 Joseph settled in the Barossa Valley and purchased a property now known as Seppeltsfield. His vines flourished in the fertile valley and he encouraged his neighbours to plant grape vines.

Soon the native Australian landscape was coloured by lush green and gold vineyards. His first vintage was made in the family dairy.
