Runner Duck Estate

Runner Duck Estate is a boutique vineyard located in the Matakana appellation of New Zealand. Established in 2003, the 3-hectare vineyard at 37 Duck Creek Road comprises approximately 1.5 hectares of Syrah, with the remaining area planted with Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. This diverse planting allows the estate to produce a range of wines, including Bordeaux varietals, Syrah, méthode traditionnelle, and Rosé. Additionally, a 0.5-hectare plot at Plume on Sharp Road, planted in the early 1990s, yields Sangiovese grapes. Runner Duck also produces semi-dry Pinot Gris and fruity Chardonnay annually.

Committed to sustainability, Runner Duck Estate follows the Sustainable Winegrowers New Zealand nil residue program and achieved full accreditation in 2011. Their practices include avoiding irrigation, minimising insecticide use, conducting annual soil and petiole tests, and returning non-diseased organic matter to the soil. Most vineyard operations are performed by hand to reduce soil compaction, and they encourage soil biodiversity through specific applications. The estate's dedication ensures the production of high-quality wines with minimal environmental impact.
