Rex Hill Vineyards

Paul Hart is proprietor of Rex Hill Winery, which he founded with his wife, Jan Jacobsen, in 1982. Paul holds a degree in mathematics, with extensive work in science and philosophy. His background in the wine industry is significant. In addition to establishing Rex Hill Winery, he has developed nearly 200 acres of vineyards in Yamhill County, Oregon. In 1988 he founded Oregon Grape Management Co., which currently manages close to 225 acres of vineyards in Oregon (primarily Yamhill County), with another 100 acres under development. In addition to his duties at the winery, Paul also serves as president of the Yamhill County Wineries Association.

Prior to 1991, Paul worked as an actuary for insurance companies and consulting firms. He was a principal and co-owner of two national consulting firms specializing in retirement plans, life insurance and executive benefits. Paul enjoys collecting Northwest regional art and is a serious cook and gardener. He also serves as a board member of several cultural and charitable organizations

Jan Jacobsen is co-owner of Rex Hill with her husband Paul Hart. Jan was born and raised in Billings, Montana, and has a B.S. degree in mathematics and a B.F.A. in art. A former teacher, Jan is a self-employed artist and designer who also works with landscape and interior design. Her art includes acrylics and sculptures based on garden and wine-related subjects. Her landscaping includes extensive perennial gardens at Rex Hill Winery and in Portland, Oregon. Jan, along with her husband, is an investor in several businesses and restaurants in Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

From its inception, Rex Hill Winery has been dedicated to producing wines made from the finest grapes and then allowing the grapes to reach their fulfillment. The art of the vintner comes in realizing the best in each variety.
