Overview

Perdeberg Cellar is situated at the foothills of the Paardeberg Mountain in Paarl, South Africa, a renowned wine-growing area in the Cape. The winery is distinguished by its predominant use of unirrigated vineyards, known as dry land vines, which thrive under challenging growing conditions. These dry land vines produce small berries with concentrated flavor and color, resulting in superior quality wines. The winery’s history began in 1941 when Jan Rossouw, a visionary wine farmer, encouraged local farmers to produce their own wines. The name "Perdeberg" is derived from the Cape Mountain zebras that once roamed the area, often mistaken for wild horses by locals.

Perdeberg’s vineyards span over 3000 hectares, mainly across the Paarl and Swartland regions, benefiting from diverse microclimates, soil types, and altitudes. This natural variation allows the production of a wide range of wines with distinct qualities and character. The winemaking process combines art, intuition, and science, with practices such as intensive vineyard management, handpicking grapes in small crates, small presses, and barrel maturation to ensure exceptional quality.

The winery is particularly known as the "Home of Chenin Blanc," producing multiple expressions of this cultivar, which thrives in their dry land environment. Perdeberg has a strong commitment to sustainability, holding Fairtrade (FLSA) accreditation and employing biologically controlled farming methods to minimize chemical use and conserve water. Their red wines are vegan-friendly, and the winery is expanding its range of vegan products. Perdeberg also supports social empowerment through internships and training programs.

Visitors to Perdeberg can enjoy a variety of wine tastings, food pairings, and relaxed dining experiences in their restaurant and outdoor areas. The winery offers a broad portfolio of wines, including iconic and limited-edition ranges, celebrating their heritage and the unique terroir of the region.
