Overview
The Kalleske family have farmed land near Greenock in the north‑western part of the Barossa Valley since 1853. Over seven generations they have cultivated vineyards, orchards and mixed farming, but in 1999 the seventh generation (notably winemaker Troy Kalleske and his brother Tony) launched their own label to showcase their estate‑grown fruit under certified organic & biodynamic viticulture. Their vineyards include very old vines, some dating back to 1875, with an average vine age of around 50 years in their key blocks.
The winemaking philosophy is minimalist and terroir‑driven: estate‑grown fruit, dry‑grown vines, open‑top fermenters, basket pressing, minimal filtration, and vinification techniques that aim to capture the vineyard’s character rather than manipulate it.
Their range is diverse: though famed for old‑vine Shiraz (notably the “Johann Georg” block planted 1875), they also produce Grenache, Mataro (Mourvèdre), Cabernet Sauvignon, Durif, Tempranillo, Semillon, Chenin Blanc and more. The estate also features a cellar door located in the original Nenke General Store in Greenock, offering a relaxed garden setting, tastings, food platters and VIP tours.
