Craggy Range

Craggy Range is a family-owned winery located in New Zealand’s premium wine growing region of Hawke’s Bay, specifically in the Gimblett Gravels district, with additional vineyards in Martinborough. Founded in 1993 by Terry and Mary Peabody, the winery was born from a desire to create a lasting family legacy rooted in a passion for fine wine. Rather than purchasing an existing vineyard, Terry Peabody sought out untouched land to ensure a focus on quality from the very beginning. After exploring wine regions in France, America, and Australia, Terry was drawn to New Zealand’s exceptional climate, youthful soils, and pioneering spirit, which offered a unique environment for producing wines with freshness, purity, and elegance.

Craggy Range’s vineyards are carefully selected parcels of land that express the unique terroir of their locations. The Gimblett Gravels vineyard, an ancient riverbed with warm, stony, sandy alluvial soils, is ideal for producing high-quality red wines such as Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery also operates in Martinborough, where it has been farming estate-grown grapes for over 25 years, producing acclaimed Pinot Noir wines. Their 2024 Martinborough Pinot Noir was awarded ‘Best in Show’ and 97 points at the 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards, highlighting the winery’s international recognition.

Craggy Range is committed to sustainable practices and fostering the next generation of viticulturists, with team members winning regional Young Viticulturist awards. The winery also features a renowned restaurant, awarded Winery Restaurant of the Year, offering seasonal Hawke’s Bay produce paired with their wines in an intimate and relaxed setting.
