Overview

Antills is a small, family-owned boutique vineyard situated at the foot of the Weka Pass in North Canterbury, New Zealand. The vineyard is planted in limestone-rich soils embedded with calcareous sea shells from the Miocene period, contributing to the unique terroir of their wines. Inspired by classical Burgundian methods, Antills employs high-density planting with a low trellis system, aiming to maximise flavour while protecting the vines from the region's characteristic hot, dry Nor’wester wind. The vineyard has been strictly organic since 2008 and received official BioGro Certification in 2022.

The winemaking process at Antills is conducted on-site, utilising a converted wool-shed and shipping containers. Grapes are handpicked, de-stemmed, and pressed, followed by open vat Burgundian-style whole berry fermentations that rely entirely on the natural wild yeasts present in the vineyard. This approach aims to create wines that authentically reflect their terroir. The wines are barrel-aged in French oak for at least 11 months and are best enjoyed after a minimum of five years of bottle cellaring.
